Very often we receive particular requests from our customers. The one of this week is interesting because involve a metal that almost everyone likes: gold
Gold is the most malleable of metals , from the stretching of a gram of gold you can obtain a wire 3,5 km long and from one ounce you can obtain a 16 square meter leaf !
sometime we use gold leaf to make some particular of a statue, that will shine at the end like pure gold. The procedure is pretty simple but you have to be very accurate. The first thing to do is clean very well the part you have to cover with gold. Then you have to paint it with a particular glue and let it dry till the right point (generally you need 24h). The last part is to put gold leaf on it, but pay attention : you have to do this operation without touching the goldleaf with hand! You have to use special brushes that acts due to the electrostatic charge of metal to take on the gold leaf and pose in place.
you can use the same procedure with various grade of gold (24k , 18k and so on) with silver or also with platinum. the result is very interesting, the leaf generally have a particular light that attract very much the eye on the particulars and make a big contrast with the rest of the sculpture. Gold leaf is also really resistant to the elements and it doesn’t oxide so it will remain virtually shiny like the first day
