Maria Gamundi’s “Sasso” ( stone), a beautiful piece made in Statuario and sold at Sotheby’s is just one of the many ways Gamundi  uses to expresse herself and in her blog she tells us about an auction where the piece was sold together with other piecese by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera,  Rufino Tamayo, Wilfredo Lam, and Fernando Botero, to name a few..

We are proud to  have Gamundi living and working in our area of Pietrasanta and Camaiore, where she was assigned a commission to create one of the Fountains within the project “Le Fontane d’Arte” that saw the placing of sculptures at many fountains, and lavatoi, (ancient wash basins) in the Town Hall Area.

Gamundi, portrays the awakening of Nature, of Life, of senses, by using the most beautiful materials and sculpting techniques as clearly shown in her “Awakening”, a marble piece later to be reproduced in bronze.

The piece that portrayed a woman floating in water, will be beautifully enriching the fountain of the marvelous village of Monteggiori, a perfectly kept medieval Tuscan village on the hills between Pietrasanta and Camaiore.
